IT’S TIME!! McGregor and Poirier 2 is scheduled to go down at UFC 257 on January 23rd 2021.
McGregor (record 22-4-0) has not fought in the lightweight division since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov back in 2018 at UFC 223. After a year away from the Octagon, McGregor took on Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone in the welterweight division and scored a 40 second TKO win in the first round. The win made McGregor the first UFC fighter to hold knockout finishes in three different weight classes (featherweight, lightweight and welterweight).
Poirier (record 26-6-0) is coming off an exciting win over Dan Hooker at UFC on ESPN in June of 2020. Prior to that, he faced the undefeated lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov which he lost via rear neck crank in the third round.
This is not the first time these two have meant inside the octagon. They have locked horns once before back in September of 2014 which Poirier took an L in the first round. With the majority of both fighter’s wins coming by way of TKO/KO, you can expect to see a lot of stand up action in this fight.
